PSHE

Our PSHE intent is to develop learners who:

  • Treat each other with respect and kindness so that they grow up to be caring and responsible citizens.
  • Understand others, showing empathy including towards those who are in need or are different to themselves.
  • Have the ability to make their own informed decisions and have confidence in their own convictions, voicing these appropriately and with sensitivity to others’ views.
  • Maintain good mental health and well-being and recognise and manage their emotions effectively. This will enable our children to successfully manage challenging situations with greater resilience as they grow older.
  • To develop a greater sense of self-awareness, self-esteem and pride in their uniqueness and be able to say what they are good at, accepting praise for this.
  • Are aspirational for themselves, their families and their community. This will prepare them for further education and the world of work and children will understand the benefits of these.
  • To understand how to budget and manage money so that they are prepared for running a household in adulthood.
  • Understand equalities, valuing and celebrating diversity including in faith, sexuality and differences in ability.
  • Are valuable members of the wider community, understanding the impact of their voice in school, locally and nationally.
  • Have a healthy lifestyle, make healthy choices and understand self-care so that they lead happy and safe lives.
  • Know about people and organisations who can help them to lead safe and healthy lives.
  • Have a clear awareness of hazards and dangers in all aspects of life, and where to go for help.
  • Have a full understanding of the wider effects and consequences of the drug culture, and an awareness of the situations where drugs may be offered.
  • Understand the importance of consent in healthy relationships and that they have control over who touches their bodies.
  • Understand the dangers of inappropriate relationships, have skills to resist such situations and know when to seek help to keep each other safe.
  • Understand the physical and emotional changes that take place as they grow towards adolescence and adulthood and know that these are normal.
  • Understand human reproduction in gradually increasing detail and use correct vocabulary for all parts of the body.
